ORLAEF's ProStart Invitational - 2019 School Sponsor

This spring, we're excited to be a school sponsor for ORLAEF's ProStart Invitational! This is the capstone event for the career and technical education foodservice training program, ProStart, which will take place on March 18th in Salem. High school students from around the state will put their skills to the ultimate test, and the top three teams in each competition will receive awards and scholarships to further their careers in the foodservice industry.

Following their success in last year's culinary competition, we're proud to be sponsoring Eugene's Willamette High School in this spring's Invitational! We recently got to visit one of the ProStart classes at WHS and present them with a $500 gift to be used toward supplies and other necessities as they prepare for the Invitational. We look forward to supporting their journey and watching them compete this spring!

Giving Back to the Community: Opportunity Village Eugene

Last week, we had the opportunity to donate some much-needed items (including washer and dryer units, a kitchen work table, shelving, and some smallwares) to Opportunity Village Eugene. Opportunity Village is a transitional micro-housing community by SquareOne Villages, located in Eugene, Oregon. OVE consists of 30 micro-homes that are supported by common cooking, gathering, restroom and laundry facilities. Since opening in 2013, OVE has served more than 100 otherwise unhoused individuals and couples in the Eugene area. It brings us so much joy to contribute and give back to our communities by supporting organizations like Opportunity Village Eugene.

2018 Festival of Trees

In November, our very own Kim Sagen, Mindy Petaja, and Lisa Lyts participated in the annual Festival of Trees in Eugene. The theme of our tree this year was “A Candyland Christmas”, and and it won the Directors Choice Award for Best Small Tree entry of 2018. Way to go, ladies!

2017 Festival of Trees

A couple of weeks ago, our very own Kim Sagen, Mindy Petaja, and Lisa Lyts participated in the annual Festival of Trees in Eugene. The Festival of Trees benefits The Cascade Health Foundation, which opened the Pete Moore Hospice House last year (a project Curtis worked on). The theme of our tree this year was “Let the Joy of Christmas Grow”, and it was the first tree sold out of all the trees at the festival! It also won the award of “Most Elegant Tree”. Way to go, ladies!

Wood Stone Plancha Demonstration

Last week, our Springfield headquarters enjoyed a demonstration of the new Wood Stone Plancha by Chef Travis and VP of sales Merrill Bevans. The Plancha griddle is designed for quick recovery. With 4 cook zones, a variety of product can be prepared simultaneously. Very Impressive!

Vollrath Experience Tour

Golf & Tailgating Weekend

On the weekend of September 8^th, we invited more than 100 of our key reps and customers to take part in a 3-day tailgating and golf tournament event here in Springfield, Oregon. This was the 32 ^nd annual golf and tailgating weekend that we’ve hosted, and each year it’s been a great success.

The event kicked off on Friday night when 40 of our guests were welcomed into town for a dinner at our Springfield headquarters. The meal was cooked by Curtis employees Travis Yates, Frankie Carpio, and Frankie’s wife, Lizzeth. Guests enjoyed rib steaks cooked on the brand new Wood Stone Plancha Grill, with baked potatoes and salad for dinner. Overall, it was a wonderful evening with lots of great food.

Saturday was game day, and many of us gathered for a tailgating party at Autzen Stadium. It was a warm day, which was perfect for a barbecue. We served burgers and hot dogs alongside cool refreshments. Approximately 120 guests attended the tailgating party, some of which had tickets to the game. However, many people returned to the tailgating party at halftime because of the warm weather. In the end, the Ducks beat the Nebraska Cornhuskers 42-35, making it a great day for all who were there.

The 32^nd annual Curtis Invitational Golf Tournament was on Sunday. There were about 96 golfers, who played in teams of 4. Players arrived at 8:00 for check in, and everyone received an 8” Mercer chef’s knife as a tee prize. A putting contest kicked off the day’s activities, and a $360 pot was split between winners John Fitzgerald (1 ^st place) Dave Johnson (2 ^nd place), and Robin Oury (3^rd place).

It was a pleasant day for a golf tournament, with clear skies by 11:00. The winning score was 53, a new low by Tom and Jeremy Lovelace. Second place went to the Cashmans (from Bend Schools) with a score of 58. Third place went to Tom Veith, Dustin & Chad with a score of 59.

Afterwards, the weekend’s events were wrapped up with an awards presentation and lunch catered by Hole in the Wall Barbecue.
